The Brief
A timeless retreat where light, texture, and intimacy create a true sense of place.
Echoes of Home is a residence that embodies belonging, weaving together the owner’s British heritage with the calm spirit of the Australian coast. The design blends soft classic elements with subtle contemporary touches, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that feels both timeless and modern.
Natural textures, layered neutrals, and gentle contrasts soften the existing exposed steel and crisp white finishes, bringing comfort and character into each space. Thoughtful details—tactile fabrics, warm timber accents, and carefully curated finishes—add intimacy and depth, balancing the light-filled rooms to achieve a lived-in yet refined feel.
The palette is serene and understated, allowing natural light to flow freely while enhancing a sense of calm and continuity throughout the interiors. The result is a sanctuary where modern living and classic comfort coexist beautifully. Every corner reflects ease, function, and elegance, capturing the essence of a home that resonates with warmth, heritage, and a true sense of place.
THE APPROACH
From the outset, Studio Gaxa worked closely with the client to ensure their vision, lifestyle, and budget were at the centre of the project.
By adopting a collaborative process, we were able to interpret the brief into a design solution that: unified the space with a consistent palette and design language, enhanced safety and functionality for day-to-day living, and delivered a stylish yet comfortable interior suitable for both living and working from home.
Just as importantly, we approached the project with mindful collaboration—ensuring the client’s voice was heard at every stage. Clear communication around budget and timeline safeguarded their investment, while seamless project management meant the process was as smooth as the finished result.
Structural beams were exposed and celebrated as part of the design, while minimalist black accents were introduced against crisp white undertones. Warm timber finishes and dark terrazzo porcelain floor tiles added depth and balance, creating an interior that feels both polished and inviting.
THE OUTCOME
The result is a home that embodies sophisticated living with an industrial edge. Each floor now feels connected, with subtle design details linking the terrace’s distinct levels into a single, harmonious environment.
The renovation not only met the client’s practical needs but also reflected their personal style - reflecting Studio Gaxa’s considered approach to listening, collaborating, and delivering with care.
